{"id":2,"date":"2015-03-21T06:53:09","date_gmt":"2015-03-21T06:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.artist-barryodendaal.co.za\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2018-01-02T14:15:42","modified_gmt":"2018-01-02T13:15:42","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.artist-barryodendaal.co.za\/?page_id=2","title":{"rendered":"About the Artist"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<article><span class=\"vcard\">Barry was born in Delmas (South Africa) but grew up in Potchefstroom \u2013 on the banks of the tranquil Mooi River. <\/span>This is also where he first discovered that putting pen <em>(pencil)\u00a0<\/em> to paper meant more than merely having to scribble words in an attempt to be understood by whoever the reader may \u2013 or may not \u2013 be.<\/article>\n<article>\n<blockquote><p><strong>He learned that drawing and creating 3 dimensions on a flat surface <\/strong><em>\u2026 where different created perspectives could literally draw the \u201creader\u201d into the scene \u2026<\/em><strong> was something that really gripped his imagination and kept him busy for hours unending.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"vcard\"><strong>Miss Saayman<\/strong> \u2013 a Grade 4 teacher (also Art Teacher) at Barry\u2019s Primary School \u2013 invested time and attention in a young Grade 1 chap\u2019s life and developed the love for drawing even further. <strong>What a lady<\/strong> \u2013 and even though she\u2019s long since passed on \u2013 <strong>Barry would honor her memory and her tenacity &amp; tireless encouragement of a young lad in the years between 1967 &amp; 1973.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/article>\n<article><span class=\"vcard\">Throughout the years following matriculation (1978) Barry has completed a large number of Paintings \u2013 using only Oil as medium \u2013 on commission from a variety of people &amp; companies who came to know his art. <\/span><span class=\"vcard\"><span class=\"vcard\">Barry has also repaired &amp; restored a number of works \u2013 on request from art lovers in South Africa.<br \/>\nActive painting pretty much came to a halt in about 1993 due to ministry related time constraints &amp; freelance work with Radio Pulpit stretching over a 21 year period between 1983 &#8211; 2004.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/article>\n<article><\/article>\n<article><\/article>\n<article><\/article>\n<article><strong><br \/>\nA little more background &amp; info about the artist\u2026<\/strong><\/article>\n<article>\n<ul>\n<li>Barry &amp; Petro (his wife) are both freelance Photographers. Barry has been involved with freelance &amp; semi-professional photography since 1980 to the present.<\/li>\n<li>Barry did a lot of Black &amp; White (monochrome) work in the 1980\u2019s (in his own darkroom) and used Ansel Adams\u2019 Zone System to great effect and success.<\/li>\n<li>Film \u2013 during the 35mm days -were bought in 100ft rolls and the Chemicals needed for the Zone System\u2019s 2 bath film developing process were mixed in-house.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"vcard\">Then came the digital era \u2026 and Photoshop.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/article>\n<article>Barry &amp; Petro now lives in a quaint little town nestled between the Mountain Ranges of the Klein Karoo and the sea \u2013 in the Southern Coastal Region of the Western Cape Province of South Africa and<strong><strong> the stifled desire to put brush to canvas has recently been allowed to \u2026 Air the studio \/ the brushes &amp; pallet knifes \/ and the well used &amp; weathered easel.<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0<\/article>\n<article>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>New works from Barry\u2019s Studio will be forthcoming\u2026 You are also welcome to contact the artist for commissions.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barry was born in Delmas (South Africa) but grew up in Potchefstroom \u2013 on the banks of the tranquil Mooi River.
